DIFK becomes newest and 58th Member of EFDI
Press Release
DIFK has become newest and 58th Member of European Forum of Deposit Insurers – EFDI. The official announcement was communicated on July 4, 2017 by Chairman of EFDI Mr. Thierry Dissaux from Fonds de Garantie des Dépôts et Résolution, France.
EFDI Board officially accepted DIFK’s membership application at its 28 June 2017 meeting. The membership was possible after the change of Statute achieved earlier in May.
EFDI is an international non-profit association, incorporated in Belgium. It has 56 full members, i.e. 56 Deposit Guarantee Schemes (DGS) and 10 Investor Compensation Schemes, from 44 countries from the Member States of the Council of Europe representing depositor insurers and investor compensation schemes across Europe.
The purpose of EFDI is to contribute to the stability of financial systems by promoting European co-operation in the field of deposit insurance and facilitating discussion and exchange of expertise and information on issues of mutual interest and concern.
EFDI serves also as a forum for discussions and information sharing among European DGS’s on common issues, such as (i) exchange of experiences in implementing EU Directives on Deposit Guarantee Schemes; (ii) cross-border cooperation; and (iii) monitoring developments in European Regulations on deposit protection and financial stability.
In order for EFDI to fulfil its objectives, it has created several standing committees and working groups.
EFDI within its Research Working Group has established several sub-working groups to deal with specific topics such as risk-based premium systems, stress tests, and databases.
EFDI has a close working relationship with major European and International organizations and academia, especially with the European Commission (EC), the European Central Bank (ECB), the European Banking Authority (EBA), the World Bank (WB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the European Financial Services Roundtable (EFSR), the European Banking Federation (EBF) and the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI), with which it develops strong relations.
DIFK will benefit from its membership in EFDI on its path to harmonization with EU Directives on Deposit Guarantee Schemes.
